Chris Finerty is a results-driven senior leader whose 30+ year career spanned combat flying assignments, critical modernization programs, and ultimately leading the Department of the Air Force’s legislative strategy on Capitol Hill. As a Major General and Director of the Air Force Office of Legislative Liaison, Chris shaped and executed engagements that advanced Department priorities through nearly $200 billion in annual budgets, built strong relationships with Members of Congress and staff, and served as primary legislative counsel to four Secretaries of the Air Force and multiple Chiefs of Staff.
Earlier roles included leading National Guard Bureau legislative efforts, overseeing modernization of Air National Guard combat systems, and commanding forces responsible for combat deployments worldwide. A Command Pilot with over 3,300 flight hours in aircraft ranging from the T-37 to the HH-60G, Chris’s operational experience was matched by his dedication to strategic outcomes, stakeholder collaboration, and mentoring teams.
But perhaps the most profound lessons came not from the halls of the Pentagon, but from family. As Chris says, “Real happiness is gained from family and community. I confused feeling special at work with true happiness. My kids have made me realize this, which is why they’ve had the greatest impact on me.”
Today, Chris continues to offer perspective on national security, leadership, and building balanced, resilient lives — encouraging others to stay focused on what truly endures.
